The Question Readers Ask Us Most About Our Editorial Content

One question about our editorial section comes up more than any other. Here's our honest answer.

The Question Readers Ask Us Most About Our Editorial Content

The most common question about our editorial content is who actually decides what our institutional editorial position is, given that a publication's editorial voice implies some kind of collective agreement.

Why this question is legitimate

Editorial content is generally understood to represent a publication's own view rather than a single writer's individual opinion, and readers reasonably want to know how that collective view actually forms.

Our actual process

Editorial pieces go through internal discussion among senior editorial staff before publication, and we try to reserve the editorial voice for positions we can genuinely stand behind collectively, rather than one person's view dressed in institutional language.

Why we don't publish editorial content often

Requiring genuine internal agreement naturally limits how often we publish under the editorial banner specifically, compared to individually-bylined opinion content, and we think that's the right tradeoff rather than diluting what "editorial" actually signals.

Why this distinction matters

We'd rather readers trust that editorial content genuinely reflects institutional agreement than publish it more frequently at the cost of that meaning.
