SAP Moves to Consumption Pricing for AI With ‘AI Units’

SAP said at SAP Connect 2026 that its Autonomous Enterprise architecture, introduced at Sapphire in May, is generally available in October alongside Joule Work and Joule Desktop, SiliconANGLE reported. AI units will be the primary commercial model, mainly consumption-based rather than subscription-based, with agent inference consuming units and customers able to see their usage.

Consumption pricing aligns SAP's revenue with how much customers use agents, and exposes customers to variable bills. ServiceNow, by contrast, announced seat-based licenses with bundled AI credits on October 15, showing no single pricing model has won.
