Editorial: Say Plainly When AI Is Behind a Layoff, and When It Is Not

Visa linked a 7% cut to AI without saying AI replaced specific roles. Monday.com cut about 20% and its co-founder denied it was replacing people with AI. Microsoft said its 4,800 cuts were not being replaced by AI. Altman has warned about AI-washing.

Our position: employers should say what changed, which roles are affected and whether work is being automated, outsourced or simply cut. Vague attribution damages trust with employees and distorts the public debate on AI and jobs.
