Meta announced a $2 billion acquisition of Manus in December 2025, when the agent maker was reportedly generating annual recurring revenue above $100 million, TechCrunch reported. In April 2026 Chinese authorities ordered the deal unwound, citing concerns about losing AI talent and researchers to the West.
Manus resumed independent operations in August and said it had to delete some user data as part of the split. It raised more than $500 million on October 8, its first funding since. For acquirers, the case shows that moving a company abroad does not necessarily insulate a deal from home-country review.
