Microsoft Rebuilds Windows Around Agents and Ships a Surface Laptop on Nvidia’s RTX Spark

Microsoft showed a revamped Windows 11 on October 7 in San Francisco, with CEO Satya Nadella describing Windows as a "hybrid intelligence" system combining cloud and local AI. Windows adds Execution Containers to sandbox AI agents, available to all Windows 11 users, and the redesigned Copilot app has an Autopilot feature that lets users name an agent and assign it a role and goal.

The Surface Laptop Ultra runs on Nvidia's RTX Spark chip, costs $2,599 and ships October 16; a Surface RTX Spark Dev Box costs $5,999 and arrives in November. Microsoft is offering up to $1,000 off for trade-ins of a MacBook Pro. TechCrunch notes a version with a more powerful chip starts at $3,700.
