A UK parliamentary committee said in September that the government should stop winging it on AI regulation, The Register reported on September 14. It called for a dedicated AI bill and for a single AI regulator to set policy, monitor performance and have "the teeth to ensure enforcement."
The UK has so far preferred a lighter, sector-led approach. The government has since rejected proposals to bring AI vendors into the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill, according to reporting on the bill, though it says amendments remain under consideration.
