Microsoft and OpenAI Rewrite Their Partnership, Capping Revenue Share

Microsoft and OpenAI amended their partnership on April 27, CNBC reported. The agreement lets OpenAI cap revenue share payments and serve customers across any cloud provider. Microsoft remains OpenAI's primary cloud provider, and OpenAI products will ship first on Azure unless Microsoft decides otherwise.

The change reflects OpenAI's growing size and its deals with other providers, including a multiyear partnership with Amazon announced alongside its $110 billion round in February. It also shows that the relationship, once exclusive, is now a negotiated one between two companies with diverging interests.
