The EU agreed in May to delay parts of the AI Act, Euronews reported. High-risk AI rules covering areas such as biometrics, critical infrastructure, education, employment, migration and border control were pushed back to December 2, 2027, a 16-month delay. Compliance deadlines for AI embedded in products such as lifts and toys now stretch to August 2, 2028.
Transparency and disclosure requirements for chatbots and AI-generated content took effect in August 2026. The pattern is a phased regime: general-purpose model obligations first, product-level rules later.
