Containment Is Becoming the Industry’s Safety Consensus

AIBW analysis: Nadella, Huang, Dell, Microsoft and ServiceNow all converged this month on sealing agents in.

Containment Is Becoming the Industry’s Safety Consensus

On October 10 Satya Nadella wrote that "we must assume a model is compromised and contain it from the start." On October 14 Jensen Huang told Fortune AI agents should be sealed in secure containers, like websites in a browser. Michael Dell said companies must set "bounded permissions." Microsoft shipped Execution Containers for Windows 11, and ServiceNow announced AI Passport with Nvidia.

Our view is that containment is where leaders who disagree about doom can agree: Huang says the technology is "completely in our control," while Nadella calls for an emergency brake. The test will be whether the controls are independent of the model they contain, and whether incidents are disclosed.
