Axios framed the October 15 partnership between Apple and Meta as two rivals burying the hatchet. Meta's open-weight Muse Spark Open model will run locally on Mac computers using Apple's MLX framework, with Apple helping show it running on paired Mac Studios.
For Apple, which sells high-memory desktops, running a frontier-class open model locally is a product story. For Meta, putting a model on millions of Macs extends its open-weight strategy beyond data centers. The model's license requires attribution and a separate agreement for model-as-a-service businesses above $20 million in revenue.
