Anthropic told investors its third-quarter revenue was $16.8 billion, up about 45% sequentially from $11.6 billion in the second quarter, SiliconANGLE reported on October 14, citing the Financial Times. The company reportedly achieved profitability on an adjusted basis for the first time. It is widely expected to list in November at a valuation of up to $2 trillion, after a $65 billion round at $965 billion in May.
Axios, citing the FT, reported the company is cash-flow positive and generates $1.70 in revenue for every dollar spent on computing power. The figures were presented at a full-day investor event at its San Francisco headquarters.
The caveats are substantial: the source is anonymous, it is unclear whether $16.8 billion is gross or net, and how Anthropic defines adjusted profitability is not stated. Analyst Holger Mueller of Constellation Research said the number is "still circled by tons of questions about how it was arrived at."
