The UK government published a new AI Risk Management Toolkit aimed at public sector organisations, while the Financial Conduct Authority separately outlined its expectations around frontier AI and cyber resilience for regulated firms. The toolkit gives government bodies a structured framework for assessing AI risk before deployment, rather than leaving each department to develop its own ad hoc review process.
Public sector AI guidance tends to move more cautiously than private sector adoption, for understandable reasons: a government agency's AI failure carries different stakes than a consumer app's, and the UK's toolkit approach, prescriptive process rather than prescriptive technology choices, gives it room to apply to systems that don't exist yet.
