Robin Rombach co-founded Black Forest Labs in 2024 and serves as CEO, after previously working as a research director at Stability AI, where he helped scale the latent diffusion approach that became Stable Diffusion. He completed a PhD in computer vision at LMU Munich following a physics degree at the University of Heidelberg.
Rombach's research contributed to widely used generative AI techniques including VQGAN, Taming Transformers, and Latent Diffusion Models. At Black Forest Labs, he has led development of the FLUX family of image models, helping the company raise more than $450 million at a $3.25 billion valuation as one of Europe's leading AI labs.
