Michael Truell co-founded Anysphere in 2022 alongside three fellow developers, building Cursor into one of the most widely adopted AI-native code editors among professional software engineers within just a few years. As CEO, Truell guided the company through a rapid valuation climb that culminated in SpaceX's all-stock acquisition of Anysphere, announced in April 2026 and closed that August at a $60 billion valuation.
Truell has continued leading Cursor's product direction following the SpaceX acquisition, with the tool retaining its distinct brand and developer-focused positioning even as the underlying company's ownership structure changed.
