Aidan Gomez is the co-founder and chief executive officer of Cohere, the Toronto-based enterprise AI company he launched in 2019. Gomez was a co-author of the influential 2017 paper "Attention Is All You Need," which introduced the Transformer architecture underlying nearly all modern large language models, work completed during an internship at Google Brain while he was still a student.
Gomez has focused Cohere specifically on enterprise and government AI deployment rather than consumer products, and has been a vocal critic of proposals for coordinated slowdowns in AI development, arguing such measures risk entrenching the market power of a small number of already-dominant AI companies. In 2026, he led Cohere's acquisition of German AI company Aleph Alpha.
