Mercer: Executives Expect AI to Cut Headcount, and Only 44% of Employees Say They Are Thriving

Mercer's 2026 Global Talent Trends survey of 825 C-suite leaders found nearly all expect AI to reduce headcount within two years, and 99% expect layoffs in the short term, according to TechSpot's summary. About 63% of executives think redesigning work around AI will deliver the greatest returns, while only 44% of employees say they are thriving, down from 66% in 2024.

This site has not reviewed Mercer's report directly. The figures suggest worker morale is falling as executives plan cuts, a risk to the productivity gains AI is meant to deliver.
