61% of medical technology respondents report using AI for medical imaging, while 57% of pharmaceutical and biotechnology respondents use AI for drug discovery, according to a 2026 healthcare AI survey. The figures mark imaging and drug discovery as the two application areas where healthcare AI adoption has moved furthest from pilot into routine use.
The same survey found that only about 5% of enterprise AI pilots across industries reach full production deployment, with most failing due to brittle workflows, lack of contextual learning, and misalignment with day-to-day operations, a gap that applies to healthcare as much as any other sector despite imaging and drug discovery's relatively strong adoption numbers.
