Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang told CBS "2030 is not going to be the end of the world" and that there is "a 0% chance" of it, calling doomsday narratives irresponsible. Bill Gates said on Meet the Press that "AI is certainly powerful enough to drive events that cause a billion deaths," while rejecting both kill switches and self-regulation as sufficient.
Notably, both say safety matters. They differ on who is responsible and what is needed: Huang calls it mainly an engineering problem that existing laws can govern, and Gates calls for oversight, records and inspectable safeguards. Our view is that this disagreement, more than any technical one, will drive the policy debate.
