At GTC Berlin, Jensen Huang Pitches an AI-Everywhere Europe With Robot Ducks, Humanoids and Phone Calls

The Register's account of Nvidia's Berlin keynote covers the DSX POD, physical AI demos, a protest, and a Forrester analyst's view of Nvidia's European investment.

At GTC Berlin, Jensen Huang Pitches an AI-Everywhere Europe With Robot Ducks, Humanoids and Phone Calls

Nvidia's GTC keynote in Berlin, held at the tent-shaped Tempodrom, was a tour of the company's AI-everywhere pitch for Europe, The Register's Dan Robinson reported on October 21. Most claims are Nvidia's own.

The protest

Environmental protesters interrupted the keynote, holding banners that partly blocked the screen and demanding to know why Nvidia does not clean up its act. Jensen Huang replied: “All important issues, but let me get through my keynote,” and security removed them. The article does not name a specific protest group.

Infrastructure and water

Huang showed the DSX POD reference design, which combines seven liquid-cooled Vera Rubin compute racks with Spectrum-X networking, with availability expected in early 2027. Nvidia claims deployment could drop from six months to as little as 14 days at a prepared site, a figure that excludes power, connectivity and other site preparation. Vera Rubin uses closed-loop liquid cooling with coolant up to 45 degrees Celsius, and outdoor dry coolers avoid evaporating water. Huang said: “At 2 gigawatts, DSX can save 54 million litres of water a day.”

Robots and physical AI

Huang gave voice commands to make Pollen Robotics' Microducks, small two-legged robots with camera faces, lie down and roll over. The demo workflow was to train in the cloud, evaluate on an Nvidia RTX Spark PC and deploy to the robots. Agile ONE SN, a humanoid reference platform from German startup Agile Robots that uses Isaac GR00T and a Jetson Thor module, is scheduled for early 2027. Huang said robotics is going to be “the next great industry.”

Cars and telecoms

Huang said Nvidia's Hyperion car system is being adopted by more vendors, and that European telecoms operators are deploying Nvidia-powered computing for AI-RAN. He said Nvidia made the first commercial phone call on T-Mobile with Nokia, adding: “so now CUDA makes phone calls.”

The sovereignty question

Forrester principal analyst Paul Miller noted that Nvidia has invested almost $10 billion into Europe in the past year, including 14 investments in European startups during Huang's trip, and said dependence on non-European firms is unlikely to meet strict definitions of European tech sovereignty. The keynote closed with a CGI video of robots performing a Eurovision-style song, which the reporter described as as bad as you imagine.
