AIBW analysis: different samples and definitions explain the spread in headline AI adoption figures.

Analysis: Three Surveys, Three Adoption Rates – Why 20%, 57% and 73% Can All Be Right

The U.S. Census Bureau found AI use among all U.S. businesses stayed between 17% and 20% between December and May, with 37% among firms of 250 or more employees. Kyndryl found 57% of surveyed senior leaders say AI is embedded in core processes or deployed broadly. Publicis Sapient found 73% of AI decision-makers say AI is used regularly or across most processes.

The samples differ: all businesses, senior leaders across eight countries, and AI decision-makers. So do the definitions. The consistent finding is a gap between use and results: Kyndryl found 11% had achieved both top goals, and Publicis Sapient found only about 10% say AI is core to operations.
