The smaller Qwen3.8-27B is pitched for coding and agentic tasks, and the flagship Qwen3.8 Max weights may be freely downloaded and run, though its training data and methods may not be revealed.
Alibaba has established itself as the leader in open-weight AI, with DeepSeek and Moonshot also strong, and CNBC reported Meta has announced plans to open-source its most powerful model. For enterprises the open-weight trend lowers costs, but U.S. lawmakers are probing the use of Chinese models.
