Crunchbase reported that 40 companies joined its Unicorn Board in July, the highest monthly count in four years, with AI among the leading sectors alongside fintech and robotics. In June, it counted 10 frontier labs, led by DeepSeek, rushing onto the board.
Crunchbase's list is a curated one of private companies with post-money valuations of $1 billion or more. Counts differ between sources, and one analysis put AI at more than a quarter of new unicorns in 2026.
