RobCo, a physical AI and robotics startup, reached a $1 billion valuation in 2026, part of a wider pattern of robotics and physical AI companies crossing the unicorn threshold this year. Physical AI, AI systems that operate robots or other hardware in the real world rather than purely in software, has emerged as one of 2026's fastest-growing startup categories.
Physical AI unicorns face a different risk profile than their software-only counterparts: hardware is slower and more capital-intensive to iterate on, which means a $1 billion valuation at this stage is a bet on a much longer and more expensive path to revenue than an equivalent valuation would imply for a pure software company.
