Our thinking about how to cover AI business developments has genuinely evolved since we started this section, and we think it's worth being explicit about what changed rather than pretending our approach has been static.
We became warier of "transformation" language
Early coverage sometimes repeated companies' own framing of AI initiatives as transformational without enough independent scrutiny. We now treat that language as a claim to verify rather than a description to repeat.
We started weighting operational detail over strategic vision
We used to give roughly equal weight to a company's stated AI strategy and its actual operational execution. We've shifted toward weighting execution more heavily, since strategy without execution detail tells readers relatively little about actual business impact.
We got more comfortable publishing genuinely mixed verdicts
Early pieces sometimes forced a cleaner narrative - a strategy working or not working - onto situations that were genuinely more ambiguous. We're now more willing to publish a piece whose honest conclusion is "partially working, with real tradeoffs," even though it's a less satisfying story.
Why sharing this matters
We think editorial evolution should be visible, not hidden, since a publication that never updates its judgment is either already perfect or not paying attention - and we know we're not the former.
