Anysphere is the company behind Cursor, an AI-native code editor built as a fork of VS Code with deep, codebase-aware AI autocomplete and code-generation capabilities. It was founded in 2022 by Michael Truell, Sualeh Asif, Aman Sanger, and Arvid Lunnemark, and grew rapidly into one of the most widely adopted AI coding tools among professional software engineers, reportedly surpassing $1 billion in annualized revenue by late 2025.
Anysphere's independence ended in 2026: SpaceX announced an all-stock acquisition of the company in April 2026 at a $60 billion valuation and closed the deal in August 2026, following Anysphere's earlier $2.3 billion Series D at a roughly $29.3 billion valuation in 2025. As of this writing, Cursor continues operating as a distinct product brand, now as a SpaceX subsidiary rather than an independent company.
